National APDA

The American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) was founded in 1961 with a mission to “ease the burden and find the cure” for Parkinson’s disease. Headquartered in New York, the organization focuses on research, patient support, education, and public awareness.

Each year the Scientific Advisory Board reviews research grant requests and funds work which shows promise of finding improved treatment for Parkinson’s disease or of making scientific breakthroughs in the search for the cure. The APDA has contributed over $30 million to PD research and another $25 million to patient and caregiver support.

The APDA has established 57 Information and Referral Centers. These Centers, staffed by healthcare professionals, offer information about Parkinson’s disease and local resources to patients, families, healthcare providers, and the greater community. Volunteers around the nation support 65 chapters and over 250 support groups.
